Lots of guitar music is difficult or very difficult. Sometimes it’s bad or very bad. But there are a few composers who have written good or very good music that’s not difficult to play. They have risen to the challenge and have come up with some heart-felt, lyrical pieces. They inspire students and seasoned players to focus on expression, phrasing, tone, and more. That’s what music is about, apart from virtuosity.
Here are three pieces for starters which I think are beautiful:
Manngha by Darragh O’Neill
described as “a short character piece…so based on traditional guitar techniques that it seems to spring from inside the instrument.”
Birds Flew Over The Spire from City Scenes by Gary Ryan described as “depicting soundscapes and images from cities and towns throughout the world from the busy urban Metropolis to the classic English scene in late summer…”
La Caravana by Armand Coeck described as “it’s about we humans always on the move like caravans of camels in the desert slowly disappearing over the horizon, in search of our true destiny”.
