Armand Coeck was born in Ghent, Belgium, in 1941. He taught himself to  compose and to play the piano, guitar, and Paraguayan harp. After an early career as a professional guitarist he decided to focus on composition. Coeck studied medieval music and became fascinated by the counterpoint and mystical atmosphere of Adam de la Halle and other troubadours. From Rosa Mystica (recorded on Youtube by Carlos with Ben Carmona) his music is distinguished by simplicity, modality and a folkloristic element.
